The Home Improvement Project
The Home Improvement Project
I have a wondrous toolbox, filled with all I need
Abundant alliteration, artfully amplifying all I am
Similes like hammers, hitting the nail on the head
But metaphor a screwdriver, the proper tool for this job
Sometimes I’ll use a line break
Tried writing a limerick, then I said “fuck it”
And everyone else can go suck it
“Try writing Haiku.
Forms got me out of my slump. It could work for you”
Said the 男 from Nantucket
to get my point across
And toss in a rhyme when I feel at a loss
Looking through the box, onomatopoeia clangs and crashes
As personification keeps playing hide and seek with me
I struggle with this project, hyperbole makes it impossible
I feel like I need meter, but I just can’t get it right
Even extended metaphor can’t fix this broken home
The tools can’t fix what’s broken
Years of therapy and healing will
But instead of fixing what’s already there
Maybe these tools can build something new
